Child Protection and Safeguarding
Providing a safe, happy and secure environment for our children to thrive in is at the forefront of all we do at Stanford Primary School. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, the person who leads on Safeguarding Pupils is called the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). The DSL at Stanford Primary is Emma Remnant. The Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead is Emma Lake, Head Teacher. The nominated Governor responsible for Safeguarding is Ged Cotton. If you have any questions, comments or concerns about the safeguarding of pupils, you can contact our DSLs through the School Office, either on 01273 555240 or email office@stanford-inf.brighton-hove.sch.uk.
The welfare of our children is our paramount concern. Our school is a community and all those directly connected, staff members, governors, parents, families and children, have an essential role to play in making it safe and secure.
All staff, governors and volunteers receive regular training covering all aspects of safeguarding pupils, and we have a robust programme of continuing professional development in place.
Our Ethos
Our school provides a caring, positive, safe and stimulating environment that promotes our school values and the emotional, mental health and wellbeing of the individual child.
School staff work in a trauma-informed way, based upon the understanding that a child’s experiences of adversity and trauma can have long-term impact and leave them vulnerable to further harm, as well as educationally disadvantaged in facing barriers to attendance, learning, behaviour and mental health.
Children are enabled and encouraged to talk openly and to feel confident that they will be listened to. The children are taught the skills they need to stay safe and to ask for help if they need it.
We recognise that all adults within the school, including permanent and temporary staff, volunteers and governors, have a full and active part to play in protecting our children from harm. We recognise the importance of enabling all adults to share the full range of possible concerns about children and about adults promptly.
We work with parents to build an understanding of the school’s responsibilities to ensure the welfare of all children and young people, including the need for referrals to other agencies in some situations.
Safeguarding Policy
Being safe within the School Grounds and creating a safe environment is a responsibility for all staff, governors and families. To meet these responsibilities, we have policies in place to help ensure that all staff, pupils and stakeholders have a consistent approach. Our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy ensures that all our staff are trained to identify and respond to areas of concern. Training is held regularly to keep staff up-to-date with Child Protection and Safeguarding legislation and policy updates. You can view a copy by clicking on the link below:

Operation Encompass
All schools in Brighton and Hove are part of Operation Encompass. Operation Encompass is a Police and information-sharing partnership enabling schools to offer immediate support for children experiencing domestic abuse. Information is shared by the Police with the school Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) prior to the start of the next school day after officers have attended an alleged domestic abuse incident, thus enabling appropriate support to be given, dependent upon the needs and wishes of the children. Please click here for more information.
If you have any questions that arise from this information, please feel free to contact the school as soon as possible.
